The Children's Book Review: If You Were Me And Lived In...Viking Europe

"By narrating directly to the reader, Carole P. Roman positions children to truly consider themselves in this time period. She emphasizes the learning segments that children will relate to the most, such as family life and what the inside of their house would look like. Roman also knows that showing similarities and differences provides a relatable experience that adds to the enjoyment of this educational offering; for example, she points out that in Viking Europe, even though women had more freedom than most women in Europe, a woman could never be chief or vote in the assemblies. Mateya Arkova’s folk style illustrations are colorful and inviting—a combination that works well with informational texts."
